The estimated value of volunteer time in the United States jumped nearly 7 percent in 2019 to $27.20 an hour, according to an analysis by Independent Sector.
It was the biggest year-over-year increase in the value of volunteer time since Independent Sector started tracking that metric in 2002. However, some of the increase was due to a change in methodology.
The new figure was produced in partnership with Nathan Dietz of the University of Maryland’s Do Good Institute, which researches volunteering. The estimate was produced using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
