Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg signed the Giving Pledge in 2010, publicly committing, at the age of 26, to give away at least half of his wealth.
Today, Mr. Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, are some of the most visible philanthropists in the world. They had already given or pledged $1.6 billion before announcing on Tuesday that they would commit 99 percent of their Facebook holdings — valued at about $45 billion — to improving the world.
