Taking the Pulse of Today’s Nonprofit Leaders
Nonprofits leaders face headwinds as inflation squeezes budgets and hiring talented staff remains a vexing challenge. To understand just how CEOs are faring in a post-pandemic world, the Chronicle commissioned a survey and conducted interviews with nonprofit CEOs.
More than 60 percent say it is harder to fill empty positions these days, especially C-suite roles. Fundraising is another sticking point: close to half are not happy with the amount of time they must spend fundraising. More than 75 percent are dissatisfied with the amount of fundraising their boards do.
The research reveals some other troubling findings. Despite high levels of job satisfaction, nearly 60 percent of respondents struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance and a third say their workloads are not manageable. Plus, 20 percent say they are likely to leave the nonprofit sector within the next two years.
To dig deeper into the state of nonprofit leadership, Chronicle journalists shared findings and discussed the implications with executives and other experts.
