The head of United Way Worldwide is leaving to lead the YMCA of the USA. Suzanne McCormick formally ran United Ways in Florida and Maine before becoming U.S. president of United Way Worldwide in 2019, where she led 1,100 United Ways. At the YMCA of the USA, she becomes the first female leader in the organization’s 170-year history and will oversee 2,600 facilities, 19,000 employees, and 600,000 volunteers. She will replace the organization’s first Black president, Kevin Washington, who is retiring after six years. (Tampa Bay Times)
The Human Rights Campaign has hired a law firm to investigate accusations that its president helped an effort to discredit women accusing New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment. Notably, a report last week on the allegations against the governor said the group’s president, Alphonso David, had slipped a confidential file on one of Cuomo’s accusers to the governor’s top aides. David, who was leading the Human Rights Campaign while serving as Cuomo’s counsel from 2015 to 2019, told the nonprofit staff that he did not know of the accusations against Cuomo until the report came out. He said he welcomed the investigation into his actions. (HuffPost)
