Nonprofit News From Elsewhere Online

Colleges are looking to donors to make up for lost federal grants, although it’s unlikely that philanthropy can totally replace those funds, which can reach into the billions. In their appeals, the schools are walking a fine line between urgency and not offending donors who may be supporters of President Trump or projecting instability. In the long run, the administration’s attacks have made some university officials wonder if higher education needs to rethink its funding model. (New York Times)

Since passing a near-total ban on abortions in 2022, Oklahoma has poured millions into crisis pregnancy centers and nonprofits supporting new mothers and children. The Oklahoma Life Foundation is in charge of doling out about one-third of the $18 million in the state’s Choosing Childbirth program. It vets and oversees the nonprofits, including one that runs a nurse-staffed call center to direct women to “life-affirming” providers. (Frontier and StateImpact Oklahoma)
