Special fundraising days have been around for decades, but in recent years the internet has fueled the rise of 24-hour online campaigns. Known as “giving days,” these campaigns can raise large amounts by combining social media, crowdfunding, and the pressure of a deadline.
Giving Tuesday, now in its fifth year, is the best-known giving day. The 2015 event raised a record $116.7 million. More nonprofits are expected to participate in this year’s event, which falls on November 29, with groups from as many as 75 countries expected to organize campaigns.
Whether you work at a community foundation, a university, or a small nonprofit, there are many benefits to participating in regional or national giving days — or even holding your own 24-hour event.
These fast-paced campaigns often help charities attract new supporters and activate their communities, and making the most of them requires. preparation and planning. Here is a collection of resources from The Chronicle to help you run a successful giving day.
