Oklahoma State University announced a $25 million donation Wednesday to establish a programming endowment for a new arts center designed to draw world-class performers to the Stillwater campus, The Oklahoman writes. The venue, slated to open in 2019, will be named the McKnight Center for the Performing Arts at Oklahoma State University in honor of the donors, university alumni Ross and Billie McKnight.
Mr. McKnight, a bank executive and rancher in Texas, said the venue could bring in major symphonies and Broadway touring shows to attract audiences from across Oklahoma and beyond. The $60 million, 93,000-square-foot building will also serve as home to the university’s music department. Campus leaders will seek to raise matching funds to double the programming endowment to $50 million.
