A California couple who came forward last week to claim a third of a nearly $1.6 billion Powerball drawing six months ago have pledged to give most of their winnings to charity, the Associated Press reports.
Marvin and Mae Acosta won their $528.8 million share of the record jackpot on a ticket they bought at a 7-Eleven in the Los Angeles suburb of Chino Hills. They opted to take a lump-sum payment totaling $327.8 million before federal taxes and said in a written statement that they will steer nearly all of the money to a trust and charities.
