Jared Blumenfeld, who has served as secretary for environmental protection under Gov. Gavin Newsom of California since 2019, will be the first president of this foundation that plans to address climate change at the community level.
Laurene Powell Jobs, the founder and chair of the Emerson Collective, pledged $3.5 billion for climate-change grants through the foundation last year. Her late husband, Steve Jobs, was the co-founder of Apple and chairman of Pixar.

Mekaelia Davis will become the grant maker’s director of Black family economic mobility on September 12.
Most recently she was director of inclusive economies at the Surdna Foundation.
Muslim Advocates
Omar Farah, associate director of strategic initiatives at the Center for Constitutional Rights, will start as executive director of the Muslim advocacy group on September 26.

Nate Mook has stepped down after four years as CEO of the group that the chef José Andrés started to address global hunger.
Erich Broksas, chief operating officer, and Erin Gore, senior vice president for development, have stepped up as interim co-executive leaders during the organization’s search for a new chief executive.

Oxiris Barbot will become the first woman president and CEO of the United Hospital Fund on September 12. She succeeds Anthony Shih, who is departing after five years. Barbot is currently senior fellow for public health and social justice at the JPB Foundation and adjunct assistant professor at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Before that, she served as the commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene from 2018 until 2020.
D.J. Gerken, director of programs at the Southern Environmental Law Center, has been promoted to president and executive director, effective October 3. He will replace Jeff Gleason, who is retiring as executive director after working there for 30 years.
Albert Roy has been tapped as president and CEO of the Lupus Research Alliance. Most recently he was executive director of Lupus Therapeutics, the research organization’s clinical-trial affiliate that he helped to found in 2015. Roy succeeds Kenneth Farber, who is stepping down after 23 years at the helm.
Leila Saad, executive director of PILnet, has been named CEO of Common Impact, an organization that recruits skilled volunteers from businesses to provide free technical assistance at nonprofit groups. She follows Danielle Holly, who departed in February after 10 years there.
Nadja Sailesman, director of business operations at Modernist Financial, has been hired as CEO of Exceed Enterprises. She follows Stephen Achilles, who is stepping down after five years at the helm.
Amy Spitalnick, executive director of Integrity First for America, will be the next CEO of Bend the Arc: Jewish Action.
Alan van Capelle, president and CEO of the Educational Alliance, has been named executive director of Friends of the High Line.

Solana Chehtman, director of creative practice and social impact at The Shed, has been named director of artist programs at the Joan Mitchell Foundation.
Catherine Crystal Foster, CEO and co-founder of Magnify Community, has been hired as vice president at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, based in its San Francisco office.
Janine Dailey, vice president of advancement and alumni relations at Pine Manor College, is joining Boston Harbor Now as chief advancement officer.
Amy Ellen Duke-Benfield has been appointed managing director of policy and research at Higher Learning Advocates. Most recently, she was senior director of policy and advocacy at Temple University’s Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice.
Patrice Green, program officer for inclusive economies at the Surdna Foundation, will now serve as the program’s interim director.
Vicky Hernandez, executive director of the Ironbound Community Corporation, has joined the Urban Resource Institute as chief development officer.
Cory Hohweiler has been promoted from senior vice president of retail to executive vice president of operations at the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity.
Alexandria Jones, associate director of digital philanthropy at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Eniris Riddick, executive director of FaithAction International House, are joining the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation as program officers in its social- and economic-justice priority area.
Jennifer Oh, associate director of managed organizations at Arabella Advisors, has been hired as a program officer at the Coleman Foundation.
Shannon Snead, vice president of development at Women in Need, has been appointed senior vice president of development at Citymeals on Wheels.
Jessica Stander has been named senior project manager at Denham Wolf Real Estate Services, which works with nonprofit groups on real-estate transactions, development, and the management of capital projects. Most recently she was senior associate and project manager at Gertler & Wente Architects.
Cheryl Renée Waide, statewide communications director at Florida Rising, will now serve as chief communications officer at Vote Run Lead.
Departures
Kaizar Campwala, CEO of the Center for Investigative Reporting since January, has resigned following a staff letter of “no confidence.” Annie Chabel, chief operating officer, and Sumi Aggarwal, editor in chief, are also departing. Robert (Rosey) Rosenthal, who served as the journalism group’s executive director from 2008 until 2017, has returned as acting CEO.
Peter Taylor plans to retire early next year as president of the ECMC Foundation. He has led the education grant maker since 2014.
Legacy
Sandra Smithey, who retired earlier this year as director of programs and philanthropic engagement at the Shine Campaign, has died. Until 2020, she was a program officer on the environment team at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation for 20 years.
