Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Virtua Health
$85 million commitment to Rowan University to endow the Virtua Health College of Medicine and Health Sciences, which will serve as a regional hub for health innovation, research, and clinical discovery in New Jersey.
The health care company will pay to hire faculty, establish educational programs, and build a research facility at the university.
Jim Joseph Foundation
$12 million over four years to the Foundation for Jewish Camp as a general operating grant and to support its $67 million strategic-plan campaign to help Jewish summer and year-round camps recover from the pandemic and reach more youths.
Patrick J. McGovern Foundation
$10 million in grants to expand access to technology education and build an inclusive workforce in tech, and to strengthen nonprofit groups that are on the front line of addressing economic and social inequities for the communities that have been most affected by the pandemic.
H. Hovnanian Family Foundation
$3 million to the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation to endow a chair in behavioral health.
CDC Foundation
$2.5 million to 30 arts and cultural groups to promote campaigns in the United States that aim to increase public confidence in vaccines that help prevent the spread of Covid-19 and seasonal flu, particularly in rural populations and communities of color.
The grants were made in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation
$2 million commitment to the United Negro College Fund to offer scholarships for Black, African, and African American students who attend historically Black colleges and universities.
Quantum Foundation
$1.6 million to 17 nonprofit group in Florida’s Palm Beach County that aim to improve access to health services for community residents. Among the grants was $300,000 to the Guatemalan-Maya Center to support migrants through education, health, cultural continuity, family preservation, and empowerment.
Hartford Foundation for Public Giving
$1.3 million over three years to LISC Connecticut to support three community-development corporations in Hartford that offer lending, planning, technical assistance, and organizational strengthening for nonprofit groups in the area, especially those that work in neighborhood revitalization and affordable housing in urban areas.
John T. Gorman Foundation
$1 million partial challenge grant to Preble Street to create the Food Security Hub, a mixed-use space that will include an industrial kitchen, food-processing center, and office space to offer education and job training in South Portland, Maine. The food-security organization must raise an additional $500,000 to receive the full match.
New Grant Opportunity
The Gerber Foundation is accepting letters of inquiry regarding grants worth up to $350,000 each over three years for research on pediatric health, pediatric nutrition, and the effects of environmental hazards on children under the age of 3. Concept papers are due May 15.
